In 2017 South Coast Science began working on the Praxis/Urban in collaboration with the UN Environment Programme. A long-range, scientifically motivated, evaluation programme was begun which has subsequently benefitted all of South Coast Science products, with stringent field trials in hostile environments and testing multiple use cases.
We work with the UN to support the implementation of ambient air quality networks globally and to develop a platform that encourages the public to replicate and contribute to the open-source air pollution monitor device developed. A critical requirement was to ensure that any solution was easy to operate and required minimum local support.
This necessitated an open design and a software approach that allowed collaboration with other specialists like Alphasense, Ricardo and academic colleagues This process was designed to stress-test the product scientifically within multiple infrastructures and mechanically in multiple application scenarios. It has resulted in a hugely robust design and has contributed to solving bigger challenges, including integration with customer’s products.
To date, our products are now used in the following countries: Argentina; Brazil; Chile; China; Costa Rica; Ethiopia; France; Germany; Italy; Kenya; Monaco; Senegal; Spain; Uganda; the UK and the USA.
